Call for Entries: Mga Kwento ng Klima Short Films 2023 launching this April

Submission of climate stories for Mga Kwento ng Klima (MKK) 2023 will open this month!

The Oscar M. Lopez Center invites all independent and professional Filipino filmmakers to join the MKK 2023 set to be launched in time for Earth Day.

The MKK is a mobile climate filmmaking competition that aims to generate climate stories told from the local context, highlighting unique climate realities and notions of resilience, in local languages.

Eligibility and Entry Requirements 

  • Interested filmmakers must submit a film pitch deck that will result in a 3-5 minute film that has the following specifications:
    • Live-action film in narrative format following any of the following genres: drama, comedy, musical, action, suspense, historical, or science fiction. Documentary and animated films will not be accepted.
    • Film narrative must have a strong climate lens. Narratives on the environment, biodiversity, and other similar topics with no climate lens will not be accepted.
  • Filmmakers can submit a maximum of two (2) film pitch decks using the template provided by the OML Center. 
  • Filmmakers are expected to use a smartphone to shoot the entire film.
  • There is no submission fee to join the competition.

Submission Process and Screening

  • Pitch decks must be submitted by the first week of May via email to <[email protected]> with the following format:
    • Page size: A4
    • Font style and size: Courier New 12
    • Line spacing: 1.5
    • Space before paragraph: None
    • File format: PDF
    • File name format: PitchDeck_Production Name_Title of the Film
  • Pitch decks will be screened and evaluated based on climate lens, story concept, director’s vision, and proposed creative approach.
  • Qualifying participants will then proceed to attend the General Assembly and Climate Film Lab sessions to complete their short films.

Up to ten film entries will have a chance to win Best Film award and take home a tax-free cash prize of Php 50,000.
