Eleventh Hour: “Why is the latest IPCC Assessment Report relevant to Filipinos?”

Projections at 1.5 ˚C, 2 ˚C, and 4 ˚C global warming from the IPCC AR6 WG1 Regional Fact Sheet – Asia.

The Climate Reality Project Philippines’ Manila Bulletin column “Eleventh Hour” featured a primer on the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) Working Group 2 (WG2). Launched on 28 February, the IPCC AR6 WG2 focused on and assessed the impacts, adaptation and vulnerabilities related to climate change.

The article, contributed by OML Center’s Kato Sarmiento, Ayn Torres and ViAnn Bagulbagul, explains what makes the WG2 report different from the WG1 report released in August 2021 and the WG2 report expected to be released in April 2022. The article also explains why the report is significant to the Philippines.

The OML Center, with the Manila Observatory, National Resilience Council, and the University of the Philippines Los Baños Interdisciplinary Studies Center for Integrated Natural Resources and Environment Management, also held a Stakeholders’ Briefing on the IPCC AR6 WG2 featuring the three Filipino authors involved in the report.

The IPCC AR6 WG2 is publicly accessible and available for download from the IPCC website.
