The Oscar M. Lopez Center is supporting a statement released by climate change experts calling for the next Philippine administration to prioritize and take urgent action on the climate emergency.
The call, posted on April 25, 2022, makes a case for why a climate emergency agenda should be integrated alongside national plans and priorities, and outlines immediate strategies that may already be implemented. The latter includes action on food security and farmers’ resilience; health and human security through management of water resources; forest ecosystem services that support livelihoods, industries, and a livable environment; social and economic benefits from aquatic resources, and the survival of coastal communities, and community resilience to climate and natural hazards.
As of posting, six climate change experts have signed the statement. Additional signatories are expected to be added to the statement in the next few days and weeks.
