Assist in the conduct, coordination and production of research on the analysis of past, present and future climate, with additional support in weather disturbance monitoring, and related risk and impacts

Short Description:

Assists in the conduct, coordination and production of research focused on the analysis of past, present and future climate, with additional support in weather disturbance monitoring, and related risk and impacts.

Responsibilities:

Knowledge Production – Research

  • Assists in the conduct of research on climate change and its impacts relevant to the Center’s target publics
    • Conducts research and literature reviews in understanding the current state of the climate and the science associated with global climate change, and the reasonable application of these to the Philippine context
    • Performs analysis that will utilize a wide array of tools, such as, but not limited to, climate modeling, impact assessments, WRF, and GIS, including the monitoring of possible or occurring severe weather conditions
  • Assists in monitoring and preparing reports of weather disturbances for internal clients
  • Works with internal and external groups to conduct research on ongoing projects of the Center
  • Updates and maintains the Climate Knowledge Portal, and assists in developing other knowledge products, their database structure, and sources for climate data, including GCMs, RCMs, and past observations, as well as climate change-relevant data
  • Assists in writing technical papers, journal articles, reports, and scientific papers, and in developing knowledge products with translated content targeted to specific audiences/publics

Project Management

  • Assists in monitoring engagements and contracts of relevant fellows, senior experts, and project-based staff
  • Liaises and coordinates with partner organizations and agencies, and fellows

Qualifications:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Climate Science, Meteorology, Atmospheric Physics, Environmental Science, or any other related field; an MS degree a huge advantage
  • At least five years of relevant work experience in climate change related research
  • Strong background and excellent skills on climate change related research i.e. climate modeling and/or weather forecasting, and climate risk and impact assessments
  • Knowledge and experience in using Regional Climate Models, Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model, climate trend analysis, and Geographic Information System (ArcGIS or QGIS); working knowledge on programming is an advantage
  • Ability to work independently (under minimum supervision)
  • Self-motivated and intellectually curious
  • Strong verbal and written skills
