Call for Entries: Registration now open for Mga Kwento ng Klima Short Films 2024

In celebration of Philippine Environment Month, the Oscar M. Lopez (OML) Center opens registration for its mobile filmmaking competition – Mga Kwento ng Klima (MKK) Short Films 2024.

Open for all independent and professional filmmakers, the MKK Shorts 2024 aims to generate local climate stories highlighting the impacts and risks of climate change on various sectors, including local communities, agriculture and fisheries, forestry, biodiversity, health, freshwater resources, ecosystems, and sustainable development.

Film Pitch Deck Submission

To join the competition, interested participants are requested to submit a film pitch deck that will result in a five-minute live-action film in a narrative format produced using a mobile phone. Film genres can be drama, comedy, musical, action, suspense, historical, or science fiction. The competition does not accept documentary or animated films.

The narratives must have a strong climate lens, focusing on climate change impacts and risks. Submissions that do not address climate-related topics will not be considered.

The deadline for submission of film pitch decks is July 20, 2024 through the competition’s registration form. Each filmmaker is allowed to submit up to two film pitch decks. For reference, the film pitch deck template can be accessed here.

Production Seed Grants for Filmmakers

New to the MKK Shorts competition, the OML Center will provide production seed grants to qualifying MKK Shorts 2024 participants to help cover a range of film production costs—from pre-production to post-production. The top 15 pitches will receive a seed grant of Php 30,000. Towards the end of the competition, the final Top 10 films will receive an additional Php 70,000 grant.

In addition to the seed grants, the Top 10 films will compete for the Best Film award, which comes with a Php 100,000 cash prize. Special awards will also be given in the following categories to win Php 10,000 each:

  • Best Director
  • Best Editing
  • Best Performance
  • Best Screenplay
  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Production Design
  • Best Musical Scoring and Sound Design
  • Audience Choice Award

Detailed information about the MKK Shorts 2024 competition is available on MKK Shorts 2024 Project Page.

The Mga Kwento ng Klima Short Films 2024 is held in partnership with the GIZ Philippines, the Film Development Council of the Philippines, and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
