Commentary: “The ‘anthropause’ is upon us: What now?”

As the COVID-19 pandemic upended daily life on a global scale, researchers have coined the term “anthropause” to describe the considerable slowing of human activities, which provides an opportune time for us to evaluate our relationship to our natural environment.

In an article published by the Philippine Daily Inquirer last September 13, OML Center Executive Director Rodel Lasco, Ph.D. notes both the positive and negative impacts of lessened human activity, encouraging everyone to digest the lessons we can draw from this moment and more importantly, “make permanent those changes in our lifestyle that reduce pressure on our natural environment.
