Oscar M. Lopez (OML) Center’s Knowledge Production (KP) Manager Ayn Torres and KP Assistant Manager Alfi Lorenz Cura represented the Center at the 2024 International Conference on UN Sustainable Development Goals and Social Innovation (ICUNSSI) hosted by the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology.

On the closing day of the two-day conference, September 19, Torres and Cura presented three groundbreaking papers focused on climate resilience and inclusivity:

  • The Deaf Amidst Climate Disasters: A Vulnerability Assessment Report of Deaf Communities in the Philippines
  • Content Matters: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Climate Change Discourse in the Philippines
  • Improving Local Sea-Level Rise Estimates in the Philippines: Integration of Local Oceanographic Processes Using Machine Learning Methods

ICUNSSI is the flagship conference of MSU-IIT dedicated to advancing the UN SDGs through social innovation. The conference gathers experts, changemakers, and partners across the Philippines, all working together in the pursuit of a sustainable future.

This year’s ICUNSSI, in collaboration with the Yuchengco Center, Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, and other partner institutions, centered on the theme “Belongingness and Interconnectedness: Magnifying Development and Innovation.”
