Resources from the OML Center are among the materials made available in a microsite containing curated resources for teaching climate change launched by the Department of Education (DepEd) as part of its efforts to intensify climate literacy and enhance its integration in the basic curriculum.
The microsite is an initiative led by the DepEd’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DepEd-DRRMS), citing the “immediate need for proactive response to the effects of climate change”.
References on climate change, climate science, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and some learning activities are available on the microsite and can be used and redistributed for free. DepEd-DRRMS also created a manual to guide teachers on how to navigate the microsite.
The OML Center resources included in the microsite are described below.
The Philippine Climate Change Assessment (PhilCCA) is composed of three working group reports containing comprehensive information on climate change science in the Philippines. The series was produced by the Center with the Climate Change Commission (CCC) from 2016 to 2018. The PhilCCA Reports and the Forest Sectoral Snapshot are available for download here;
The Philippine Climate Almanac highlights record-breaking and other significant statistics of climate-related variables, extreme events, and disasters across seven decades through data visualizations. A copy may be downloaded for free via our website;
The State of the Philippine Climate is a series of annual reports providing a summary of observations of the country’s climate and climate-related disasters produced in partnership with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). Editions of the SPC are available for download here.
“Mga Kwento ng Klima” is an award-winning documentary co-produced by the OML Center and ABS-CBN DocuCentral, chronicling the effects of climate change through the Filipino experience. Watch Mga Kwento ng Klima via iWant TFC or ABS-CBN News’ YouTube channel.
The microsite also contains learning resources and references from other partner organizations including the CCC, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), PAGASA, and World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Visit the DepEd website for more information on the microsite.
