Last June 28, OML Center’s Executive Director Dr. Rodel D. Lasco was a keynote speaker at the Energy Development Corporation’s 11th BINHI Day held at the Oscar M. Lopez Hall in One Corporate Center, Pasig City.
BINHI Day is a culmination of a month-long series of activities designed to promote EDC’s greening and reforestation initiatives. In observance of the Philippine Environment Month, this year’s BINHI Day theme was “Go Green to Breathe Clean,” focusing on the role of trees in reducing air pollution across the country.
In his presentation, Dr. Lasco underscored the importance of trees in minimizing air pollution as well as curtailing the effects of climate change. He presented dire statistics on Philippine air pollution and its effects on the Filipino population, and explained that both planting and preserving trees are valuable in the fight for cleaner air. Dr. Lasco ended his speech on a positive note by stating that a single person can create a big impact simply through planting trees and nurturing already present fauna.
Aside from Dr. Lasco, Mr. John Leo Algo of the Climate Action for Sustainability Initiative also presented relevant facts about air pollution and highlighted the importance of taking immediate action.
Guests were welcomed by Mr. Engellau Flores (EDC) who gave the program’s opening remarks and Atty. Allan V. Barcena (EDC) who presented a short background on BINHI and its notable ventures and achievements.
After the morning program, EDC formally opened the exhibit that featured booths from EDC’s partners and sponsors, including the OML Center. The OML Center booth showcased games and activities geared towards educating people further on climate change.
