The Philippine Climate Change Assessment – Cycle 2

Climate change is a global challenge, but its impacts vary from country to country.

To make informed, climate-smart decisions, it’s essential to have access to up-to-date, localized climate knowledge. A sound scientific basis allows decision-makers to evaluate the environmental and socio-economic consequences of climate change, and to formulate realistic response strategies.

In the Philippines, climate knowledge is still in its infancy. While the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) offers a comprehensive global perspective, the country has lacked a similar authoritative body to provide localized insights.

To address this, the Oscar M. Lopez Center for Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Management Foundation, Inc. (OML Center) published the Philippine Climate Change Assessment Report (PhilCCA).

The PhilCCA is a quinquennial publication by the OML Center produced in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Philippine Climate Change Commission (CCC).

Patterned after the IPCC Assessment Reports, the PhilCCA synthesizes scientific information from international and local literature in order to provide an assessment of climate change for the Philippines and identify gaps in the scientific literature. It contains comprehensive information on climate change science in the Philippines that can guide everyone in making strategic decisions.

The PhilCCA has three volumes, namely:

  • Working Group I: The Physical Science Basis
  • Working Group II: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability
  • Working Group III: Mitigation of Climate Change

The first cycle, released in 2016-2018, can be accessed here.

We welcome user feedback. Let us know how we can improve this publication.
