Project-Based App Developer (OMLC Climate Impact Risk Matrix)

Will work primarily on creating a web-based version of the Impact Risk Matrix: A Climate-Informed Planning Guide

Overview

The Center is seeking a project-based Application Developer to create a web-based version of the Impact Risk Matrix: A Climate-Informed Planning Guide. The app will be made available on the Center’s website, and deployed to national and local government partners. 

Under the overall and direct supervision of the Associate Director, as well as the support of the Project Researcher, the Application Developer will work primarily on translating the current Microsoft Excel-based tool to a web-friendly application using Java, C, Python, or any programming language best suited for the task.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assess the existing tool and define core functionalities of the application
  2. Prepare a project brief, including a proposal or application sketch that outlines the application’s user experience and interface
  3. Prepare the database for storing climate impact and risk data
  4. Build the draft of the application and conduct user-testing 
  5. Deploy final version on the Center website
  6. Submit full project documentation, including a user guide, for the app

 

Qualifications

  1. Experience in designing and building applications
  2. Workable knowledge of programming for diverse operating systems and platforms, especially for website (e.g. wordpress)
  3. Sufficient understanding of data structuring, system design and programming
  4. Knowledge of programming language such as Java, C, Python or other suitable language
  5. Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  6. Time management skills
