Background
The OML Center, in collaboration with its partners, is conducting a comprehensive study on sea
level rise and its impacts on the Philippines and is currently looking for an Output-based
Researcher.
Scope of Work
Under the overall and direct supervision of the KP Manager, the Output-based Researcher will
assist in the development and implementation of the Center’s collaborative study on sea level
rise and its impacts in the Philippines with the following specific duties and responsibilities:
- Conceptualize and design vulnerability and impact assessment framework
- Relate SLR projections to impacts on coastal and other low-lying areas
- Create a vulnerability index to assess the impacts of sea level rise
- Coastal profiling at municipal level including but not limited to bio-physical, socio-economic, infrastructure, industrial.
- Identify potential and relevant adaptation options/strategies based on projections and impacts, including but not limited to existing solutions
- Assist in the development of a decision support tool/s for national and local planners andpolicy- and decision-makers to ensure usability of findings and integration into adaptation plans/strategies
- Provide inputs to concept and initial design
- Extend assistance to conduct usability testing with target users of tool/platform
- Provide technical inputs in the development of concept notes, proposals and related documentation for funding applications and similar opportunities
- Assist in the development of a paper / journal article based on the project findings;
- Coordinate with local governments, project team, and other stakeholders in the execution of the project activities and in conducting meetings and workshops relevant to the project;
- Attend regular (mostly virtual) internal meetings, dialogues, and workshops, or as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Climate Science, Geography, Marine Science, Statistics or other related fields; Master’s Degree is an advantage;
- At least three years of relevant work experience in environmental impact assessment, climate change, sea level rise, climate risk analysis, environmental planning, disaster risk reduction management;
- Experience in synthesizing available information and data on sea level-related research;
- Experience in geospatial analysis, creation of indices, and vulnerability and impacts assessment;
- Experience in organizing stakeholder consultation meetings and workshops;
- Output-driven with excellent writing skills and strong time management; and
- Team player and able to work independently (with minimum supervision), and able to meet strict deadlines
